I am currently working in oils, acrylic and mixed media paintings on canvas or board. Mostly expressive abstract or semi abstract, with layers and layers applied then rubbed away. Colour and form are re applied, areas painted over, wet paint drawn into. Starting points for compositions come from sketchbook drawings of reactions to landscape and natural forms, but they are only faint starting points, my paintings usually take their own path and I end up somewhere completely different to where I started, sometimes it can feel familiar, the good ones are when it feels just right and I am happy to look and keep looking. I use mark making in rhythms, using handmade tools, varieties of brushes, anything that is laying around the studio that produces the emotion or mood within the materials used.
